The golf continues to be excellent! The greenkeeper’s rain dance finally worked, and although none of us wanted the rain, it came at a crucial time just after a feed dressing was added to all 45 greens! The golf continues to be excellent and so does the scoring. Rob Cox forgot his putter so I lent him mine, he shot a gross 69 - nett 65, so I’m pleased to see it back in my bag. But his low score was not enough to beat his playing partner Stuart Norris who pipped him on countback. Division Two was won by Colin Sivyer also on nett 65, the lowest nett round was in Division 3 with in form Peter Chettelbrough scoring a nett 64! Rob’s stellar score and the other low rounds score were in the D Day medal and in this 75 anniversary, I think Portsmouth and the whole country did us proud with fitting and poignant and moving tributes. All three win very nice commemorative medals and we will send the moneys raised to the Poppy appeal. Staying with the competition theme, it is only two weeks to the 36 hole Scratch Medal Championship. The 11am Saturday gang have come up with a positive solution to making the event bigger, which we will embrace for 2020. The Greenwood trophy will become a drawn event played as an afternoon round finishing at the same time as the championship, this way we will have a crowd hopefully that will stay and a BBQ presentation.
FootJoy Club League Well the 2019 FootJoy Club League is shaping up well. We have 23 people signed up so far and the scoring is going well. I have talked to a few of the members over the last 2 weeks and it seems that some of you are having trouble registering for the comp. The website can be a little temperamental at times so please persevere and try again. I know Jamie Callahan had trouble but eventually he got there, also please pester your golfing buddies to join as the more we have the better chance we have of getting into the club prizes offered by the website! I will put up the latest leaderboard this weekend in the changing rooms but for now here are the top 5: 1st - Marian Kalnovic = 5218 points 2nd - Richard Lang = 5186 points 3rd - Robert Cox = 5048 points 4th - Danny France = 4994 points 5th - Jamie Callahan = 4568 points Don't forget the competition runs from 1st April until September. It includes all medal competitions held on both courses played in between those dates, so don't worry if you think it’s too late as those scores will be included and it’s your best 5 scores that count. Remember it is FREE to enter on the Howdidido website and It takes 2 minutes to sign up (hopefully). They take care of all the scoring and points, so all you have to do is enter the medal comps at the club and the silverware could be yours!!
