Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we have the results from a windy stableford, discuss whether slow play is coming to an end, have a video that may include a hole in one, and offer you some great second hand bargains. Enjoy the read.

Weekend stableford

Well storm Brian didn't disappoint! The people that played on Saturday in the competition either should get a medal or an appointment with the physiatrist! One score worth mentioning in that wind was 33 points by club champion Liam Spencer who did tell me he hit a 50 yard sideways cut with a 3 wood into the 8th that finished a foot from the flag and an easy two! For a week where the course was almost unplayable, there was an amazing 15 twos!

Now only one player beat their handicap, but we will get to that. The winner of division three was Marc Boraini with 35pts and division two was won by Gary Bishop also with 35pts. The player of the week by some margin was Mike Radford with an 8 shot victory in division one with 41pts.

Mike now has reached a milestone getting down to 9.6, all done with hard work and good equipment choices. Congratulations to Mike and all 54 of you that survived the weekend.

Is slow play coming to an end?

The Rules of Golf are undergoing dramatic change at the moment as the R&A and USGA – golf’s two governing bodies – look to bring the game inline with today’s needs. Their Rules Modernisation initiative includes several updates that’ll hopefully bring about a faster speed of play and shorter rounds of golf; no one wants to be taking 4+ hours to play 18 holes.

Well now the European Tour want to do their bit and to be fair to them, they’ve been at the forefront of modernising golf with innovative events such as Super 6 and GolfSixes. This week they’ve introduced a new event onto the 2018 calendar – the 2018 Shot Clock Masters. As the name suggests, players will have a strict 40-second shot clock on each stroke in an aim to cut round time by at least 45 minutes. The punishment if they take too long? A one-stroke penalty.
