Medal

Last week’s medal saw the course at its most brutal with only Shaun Lock and Kevin Fisher beating there handicaps. I know a lot of you are unhappy about the length of the rough, there is a plan to cure this but we will have to wait for a period of dry weather!

Charity golf day

Ray Graydon, Aston Villa legend and seniors regular had a very costly hole in one playing in an Aston Villa ex-player’s charity golf day. Ray, with all of his left handed wizardry popped one in on a par three and walked out of the clubhouse wishing he was on premiership wages.

Greenkeeper update

• Within the next fortnight the tees will receive a solid tinning, feed & top dressing.
• Whilst the weather is damp, and grass growth is high, we’ll continue to do as much cutting as possible in drier conditions.
• Greens have bounced back well from the autumn renovations, some still a little thin on growth in areas, but generally in good shape.
• Bunkers work will start within the next month. This being a dig out, check/install drainage and fresh sand to finish.
  

The longest hole in history

We all love a challenge; beating a personal best or doing something outside of our comfort zone. That feeling of having achieved something beyond what we normally would.

In an attempt to raise $100,000 for children’s charities, one man and his caddie (subsequently joined by an adopted dog on their journey) set out to complete the longest hole in history; a par 14,000 carved out of difficult Mongolian terrain, culminating at the 18th green of Mt. Bogd Golf Club.

It took them 82 days to trek the 2011km hole, facing rocky ground, swamps, icy water and desert in the process – click on the link below to view their video. With only 134 balls lost – with one ball lasting 65km! – the man holed a nervy seven-footer to complete the longest hole in history in 20,093 shots, just the mere 6,093 over par. A really special achievement for some fantastic charities.
