In this week's email, we debate whether Justin Thomas is underestimated or whether he's simply gone under the radar, we showcase some of our favourite items of 2017 and also provide you with a must-watch video.

Competition news

Texas scramble

The Texas scramble received a good turnout with the winning score coming in at 58 from the team of T.Nicol, S.Rigden, I.Rogers and M.Kalnovic. Congratulations guys, not many can say they have shot a sub 60 round of golf!

The upcoming competition this weekend is the Bogey Cup on the Parkland. Played as match-play against the course with full handicap allowance, it is all about your nett score on each hole. A nett par is a half, nett bogey or worse is a loss and nett birdie or better is a plus. So even if you are like me and throw in a few tens, it is only a minus (thankfully).

US PGA Championship

Underestimated or under the radar?

Justin Thomas fulfilled many people’s dream on Sunday by claiming his first Major title at the USPGA Championship. The year’s final Major at Quail Hollow didn’t really ignite until the back nine on Sunday, where Thomas took centre stage.

The American looked to be heading towards trouble on the 10th only for his wayward tee shot to ricochet off a tree and back onto the fairway. If that wasn’t a sign that it was going to be Thomas’ day then what followed on the same hole definitely was.

The 24-year-old’s eight-foot birdie putt stopped on the edge of the hole, defiantly staying above ground for over seven seconds, before eventually dropping to the bottom of the cup. He followed this with a chip-in birdie at 13 and a birdie at his penultimate hole – set up by a sublime 214-yard 7-iron to 15 foot – to win the USPGA by two shots.

At 24 years of age, this win sees Thomas join Nicklaus, Woods, McIlroy and Spieth in being one of only five golfers to have won four times (including a Major) in a single season before turning 25. It really is hugely impressive when you think about it, which leads us on to this week's question:
