25th Anniversary Cup
The 25th Anniversary Cup was played with a big field in blustery conditions. The scoring was very tight with no runaway winner. The top 5 players in reverse order were Terry Nicol 71 in 5th, Stuart Mcnee 70 in 4th, Tony Plumbley in 3rd and losing on countback was Graham Brading gross 76, nett 69. But the winner was in-form Sam Daniel with nett 69. It gave me a dose of reality when you realise Sam probably wasn't born when you started work at East Horton. I will grab a picture of him this weekend. Congratulations Sam and all of the winners.
Summer Pairs & Singles Matchplay
The summer pairs and singles draws are now up. I urge you to contact your opponents and arrange your games ASAP as we really do not want a coin toss to decide any of the games.
Club Championships & Handicap Championship
We are now taking entries for the 2017 Club Championship over 36 holes and Handicap Championship over 18 holes on 10th June. Please enter when you are up next as its only 3 weeks away.
Bunkers
I have received a few comments about the filling in of some of the bunkers. Dan has just been away but has updated me on the reason behind the changes. Do remember the bunkers go in initially from the architects drawing; only time tells you if they actually work on a playability or practically level.
- Those on the 4th were filled to become grass bunkers (still a hazard) due to the fact that when the water table is high enough they become small ponds, as the stream becomes high enough that they simply cannot drain for days.
- The 5th fairway bunker was filled because there is simply no need to have two massive fairway bunkers right next to each other.
- 8th bunker was poorly placed, so is now a different hazard.
- 9th fairway bunker, filled as there is no need for 2 bunkers in that area. So with it removed the golfer gets the opportunity for a shorter risk and reward shot.
- 11th greenside bunker, filled due to the fact it was 1 of the wettest bunkers on the whole site due to its depth. Again has a new challenge now with mound from side of green making to small hollows to collect balls left of green.
Speed Golf
Speed Golf comes to East Horton on 23rd May.
What is it? Well, here is a video to get you in the picture. So if you like to run, want to get fit and challenge yourself let me know here.
Complete Equipment Soultion
We've teamed up with PING, TaylorMade, Callaway and Lynx to offer you FREE custom fitting and a FREE lesson. It's so important for golfers of all abilities - particularly amateurs, who have far more to gain - to get custom fitted, as opposed to leaving it to chance, like you'd be doing if you bought standard spec clubs straight off the shelf.
You really have nothing to lose. We will help you to get the most out of any new equipment through a thorough custom fitting process before you buy, followed by a lesson to see you on your way. Learn more by watching PING's short video.
