Greetings golfers,

Miles is away for the week in Cornwall. Never the less, he has still managed to get in touch to with us, he did mention he has had a few too many cornish pasties and might look a little different on his return.

Things to keep an eye out for:

Callaway chrome soft truvis - £35.00

Chrome Soft is the only ball that has the SoftFast Core with low compression and the Tour Urethane Cover. You don't have to choose between feel and distance anymore.

The red and white or Yellow and black Truvis pattern is specifically designed to maximise your view of the golf ball for better focus and visibility.

Knowing your yardages is so important when aiming to hit those low, competitive scores. The New Garmin approach watches will give you all the help you need with distances to front, middle and back of green, distance to hazards, 40,000 preloaded golf courses and a recorded scorecard - Just in case you forget to take one.

Thought of the week

Amateurs or pros?

Welcome to this week's newsletter. By the time you read this a few medals will have been handed out already in Rio - but who's going to take home Olympic gold in the golf?

The build-up to Rio - in terms of the golf - was dominated by many of the game's biggest stars dropping out, and these players have all received a lot of criticism for doing so.

Was the Zika virus a convenient excuse? Can today's elite stars be forgiven for skipping the Games because of their hectic schedules? Where does an Olympic gold medal stack up against a Green Jacket or Claret Jug?

Whatever your opinion, it has raised the question as to whether amateur golfers should have been targeted to represent the sport in Rio, rather than professionals.

We'd be interested to know your opinion, so pop to our homepage and register your vote.

It's a discussion that will rumble on. In the meantime, let's see how those who are playing get on. When the medal ceremony does take place, we wonder whether any of those who did decide to withdraw will regret their decision. Just a thought…

Video of the week

There's always going to be an element of luck with any hole-in-one, but this is something else! Sadly for Thomas Bjørn, it won't go down as a competitive ace.. Still… worth a watch.

Luckiest ever hole-in-one?
