The seniors had their annual 3 club challenge this week. Thirty seven players enjoyed a glorious summers day on the Parkland course. The Trophy was presented to Rob Naylor, after count back, with 37 stableford points. Jim Sheppard was a very close runner up.
Club member Gary Hague has asked me to pass on this message about a free to enter club competition. The competition can be found via HowDidIDo. It doesn't cost anything and there are prizes to be won through the website as well as the grand final.
Entering this also enters our club into the FootJoy club league. This lists all our club members and lists them in a Club Order of Merit based on medal round scoring. At the moment we have only 17 people listed. We need a minimum of 44 to be entered nationally for prize allocation. I am not sure how many people know about this internal competition but it would be good for the club to get the members to enter this.
The entry deadline has moved a week forward for the Club Championship; you have until the 12th of June to enter.
So it you can handle physically and mentally 36 holes of scratch medal golf, put aside the 18th of June, the morning tee off will be around 7.15am.
Positive feedback from this month's club fittings with the M2 iron winning nearly every time as it just goes a mile if you're in the market you really should give it a go.
The other hot product is the PING G series driver Chaz Upsher was telling me he had been to places he had never seen before and he meant that in a positive way!
Hole-out without fear
Holing short putts is critical if you're to compile a good round; it can save a poor score and turn an average one into a competitive total. The pros on TV make it look easy, but even they struggle, so there's no need to panic if you're having difficulties from six feet and in.
Confidence is a key factor, so here's a top tip for you to work with on the putting green, one that helps you to stop looking for the ball, which is a common fault.
When you're worried about the result it's understandable that you might look where the ball is heading almost before you've even hit it. So, try putting a marker underneath the ball and keep focused on that after you've hit the ball. This will help maintain stability in your technique.
There are plenty of tips out there to help putting, but this drill is simple and can work wonders. Give it a go and hopefully you'll reap the rewards.
